It's with great sadness that I mourn the passing of my friend Powers Boothe. A dear friend, great actor, devoted father & husband.

Fans and members of the industry posted farewell messages on Twitter remembering the great actor’s varied career (even if he did have more than his share of Westerns mixed in there).

I don't believe that Powers Boothe has died because death, like anyone, would be intimidated by Powers Boothe.

Sad. He was a favorite of me & my cohorts at School of Visual Arts in the early 80s.#powersboothe https://t.co/u5AtrSmD9w

Powers Boothe easily has the greatest Civic Arena-based death in cinema history. RIP. https://t.co/4tPVrW5kPO

It didn't matter the role, Powers Boothe stole every scene he was in. Couldn't take your eyes off him.

Goodbye Powers Boothe.

Brilliant actor with the best name ever.

I grew up watching his work – seen here playing Rev. Jim Jones in 1980. pic.twitter.com/WkiU9Wc6ZY

Some of his recent roles included President Daniels on 24, Connie Britton’s shady father on Nashville, and the Hatfields & McCoys miniseries. His final series was the ABC hit Marvels Agents of SHIELD. Some of the cast of the superhero series posted their remembrances on Twitter after the news was made official, as well as other recent colleagues.

So,I was wrong. Powers Boothe has passed. It had been called a hoax. But it's confirmed. So very sad. He was a colleague and good friend

Truly shocked by the news that Powers Boothe has passed away. Such a talented, kind and inspiring man. A true gentleman and a friend.

Sadly, the planned Deadwood movie will now go without one of it’s main men with Boothe’s passing. Cy Tolliver’s presence in the show is what so many fans know Boothe from and will be one of his most indelible performances, which is truly incredible considering how many amazing projects he was a part of and memorable performances he delivered.

The character actor will be dearly missed by fans, friends, and all who knew him.
